Hope and Growth for Different and Changing Bodies

You are not alone

Tired of self-help that is mainly tailored to the non-disabled?

How many frustrating performance-driven books, seminars, or pieces of cheap advice have you received thinking,
“Easy for you to say, you’re obviously not disabled…”?
Way too many if you are like us.
That’s why we founded the Rising Disabled Project.

Whether we were born with disabilities or acquired them as life unravelled, living well with disability and limitations is challenging but possible.

Yes, we can have a disability and :

  • give ourselves a chance to feel better
  • be excited and dream again,
  • have hope even after life changes irreversibly

Help for people with disabilities that goes beyond mere subsidized financial assistance are hard to find. We all need credible inspiration and support to nurture all aspects of our well-being.

The best relatable support resources are real people with disabilities doing well.

Connecting with peers with similar experiences who found a way to a better life can bring understanding and good reasons to hope. With support, creativity can flourish, allowing us to move forward in choosing what to try next. We would love to accompany you!

We recognize your expertise in yourself

You know yourself best, and we will speak and listen to you as equals. We won’t tell you what to do, but we will share new angles that might inspire you to try new perspectives.

Our lived experience is our competence

Knowledge of what is helpful is not only a matter of theory and diplomas. Everyone in our disability support groups, including the leaders, has first-hand experience with disability. We know you are unique, but our path might resemble yours in many ways.

Peer support is a mutual exchange

There is always room for growth. Our stories, experiences, and ideas might help you reconsider your potential for joy, dreaming, and purpose. This is a two-way street: we expect to grow with you, too!

Etienne LeSage stands in front of trees

Etienne was born with cerebral palsy. He left a successful career as a computer scientist for the Canadian government to become an ordained minister. He tackled the spiritual angle of disability early on to enter ministry feeling whole and confident. A few years later, his health and disability worsened, preventing him from continuing to serve under the rigid expectations placed by congregations on their ministers. Rising once again in emotional recovery, he now uses his superpower of empathy to focus on supporting and advocating for fellow ministers, youth and people with disabilities.
